The Agassiz Cichlid is one of the best known and widely kept of all of the apistogrammas. It is a colourful and calm cichlid that is fairly hardy and a good community fish. The male is a little larger and more colourful than the females and the fins are generally longer.

They like a densely planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places.

Species – Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid - Apistogramma agassizii

Current Size – 5cm

Adult Length – 6cm

Temperature Range – 23 – 29°C

pH Range – 5.5– 7.5

Special Requirements - They prefer a soft, slightly acidic environment.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility - These little cichlids are timid fish and tank mates should be chosen to compliment this. As with most cichlids, they can become territorial during breeding. They can be kept with other dwarf cichlids.

Feeding - The Agassiz are primarily carnivores and feed mostly on invertebrates in the wild. They are happy with most quality dry food but should be fed live or frozen food regularly.

Please note – Some images used are library photos and will show the colour potential at a fully mature size, as our fish are juvenilles they may vary.

We always aim to supply the fish as close to the purchase size as possible. However if this is not possible, we will always contact you to discuss.

The fish are selected at random however you are welcome to make a note on the order and the fish manager will do his best for you. This is dependent on current stock at the time of your order.

    Review:
My Red Dwarf is strictly carnivorous. He lives in a tank with breeding Endlers and his job is to keep the population down. I also feed him tubifex once a week. If he gets really hungry he will nibble at flake food but you can tell he isn't keen.
He is definitely not shy and spends most of his time in full view. A beautiful fish.
