The Siamese Fighting fish is a complicated fish and should not be purchased on a whim. The name suggests that they are an aggressive species, but this is certainly not always the case.

Siamese fighters are hardy, full of character, and are peaceful to most other fish. They do not seem to enjoy open spaces, preferring densely planted areas of the tank. An ideal environment would be a small aquarium with a lot of plants and a few peaceful tank mates.

Female fighters are peaceful community fish.  They can be kept in small groups (unlike the males). Although not as long finned as the males, they can be very colourful. They enjoy a well planted aquarium with consistent water conditions.  It is only recommended to put a male with the females if you are preparing them to breed.

Please let us know your colour preference and we will do out best to oblige.

Species – Siamese Fighting Fish - Betta Splendens

Current Size – 3cm

Adult Length – 7cm

Temperature Range – 24 - 28°C

pH Range – 6.0 – 8.0

Special Requirements - They are relatively easy to keep and are very hardy once settled, providing that they are not being bullied.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility – Unlike the males you can keep several females together without many issues; however over time one generally becomes the dominant one of the group. They can also be aggressive to other long finned tank mates. However, usually, if housed with standard community fish, they pose no threat at all. In fact, they can be prone to having their beautiful fins nipped and this is often more of a problem. They can also be prone to stress if they are perpetually being nipped.

Feeding – They are not fussy eaters, accepting flakes and pellets along with live and frozen food.

Please note – Some images used are library photos and will show the colour potential at a fully mature size, as our fish are juveniles they may vary.

We always aim to supply the fish as close to the purchase size as possible. On rare occasions if this is not possible we will contact you.

The fish are selected at random however you are welcome to make a note on the order and the fish manager will do his best for you, requests are dependent on stock at the time of your order.

I purchased 3 of these for my sorority tank, they were very pretty and healthy, fed well, bit skittish to start, I have since lost one of them, through no fault of tropco. Would recommend if you want a sorority yourself, lovely fish. Advise you research betta sorority and behaviour before you set up your tank x

Cool fish, would recommend, although minus 1 star as they didn’t get on with the new small Platies I also got. Maybe change the review to “will occasionally nip”.
