Cichlid Community – Aggressive cichlid

This is from Lake Tanganyika. The Juvenile Tropheus Bemba often exhibit broken orange bands and no clear distinction between the band and the body however when more mature and reach adulthood the band should become much more solid and distinct.

Tropheus cichlids are relatively hardy as long as diligent attention is paid to maintaining their environment and diet.

Species – Tropheus Bemba Orange

Current Size – 4cm

Adult Length – 15cm

Temperature Range – 23 - 28°C

pH Range – 7.6 – 8.5

Special Requirements - All African Cichlids are territorial to other males. The more rocks and hiding places they have the better. The Tropheus species are very susceptible to African Bloat, also called Malawi Bloat. There seems to be no explainable rationale as to its cause.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility – They may be kept in a larger aquarium with other herbivorous rock dwelling African cichlids along with some Synodontis catfish species.

Feeding – This cichlid is an omnivore. Their diet should consist of vegetable matter. An all purpose, high quality cichlid formula can be used as a basic diet. Including vegetable supplements to their diet will help with overall health.
