Can be nippers! – Species only recommended

This great little puffer has become very popular with aquarists. It is pretty, small and easy to keep.  It is completely freshwater so does not require salt, unlike other puffers.

We recommend that they are kept in mainly species only aquariums (although they are very happy with Otocinclus) but many aquarists keep them with other fish as well without issue.

Species – Indian Dwarf Puffer – Carinotetradon travancoricus

Current Size – 1cm

Adult Length – 3cm

Temperature Range – 24 - 28°C

pH Range – 6.5 – 7.8

Special Requirements - These should be regarded as semi-aggressive fin nippers. Can be sensitive to Nitrate

Tanks Mates and Compatibility –  Ideal in species only tanks or kept with Otocinclus etc.

Feeding – Can be fussy eaters. Love small snails and can be encouraged to eat live or frozen foods. Not keen on flakes or pellets.

We recommend:

Please note – Some images used are library photos and will show the colour potential at a fully mature size, as our fish are juveniles they may vary.

We always aim to supply the fish as close to the purchase size as possible. On rare occasions if this is not possible we will contact you.

The fish are selected at random however you are welcome to make a note on the order and the fish manager will do his best for you, requests are dependent on stock at the time of your order.

    Review:
Arrived extremely well packaged and the heat pad was still lovely and warm when the fish arrived, the cost of the postage is worth every penny because the fish arrived in great condition.
These little puffers are fantastic little characters and very quickly get to recognise you and will come over to you. The hardest part about keeping these little puffers is getting them eat but once you have found what they like they will eat very well.
A heated tank is a must and a reliable thermometer so you know what the exact temperature is for, if the water is too cold or hot the puffer will suffer badly and because of there small size when something changes they don't like you only have a small amount of time to fix the problem but once you know how to care for and feed these little puffers you will not regret getting one.
