Fire Eel ~ 12cm

Fire Eel  – Mastacembelus erythrotaenia

Community – with caution.

The fish you will receive will be approximately 12cm

The Fire Eel is one of the largest spiny eels to be found in aquaria. They are relatively peaceful (although they will eat small tank mates). They are mainly nocturnal, hiding for most of the day. A tank should be dimly lit and have plenty of hiding places if your fire eel is to thrive. They do have a tendency to burrow and so may uproot your plants.
They can be aggressive towards their own kind so it is advised that only individual specimens are kept in a tank.

Adult Length: 70cm

Temperature Range 24-28 C

pH Range: 6.0-7.5

Special Requirements:  Prefer slightly hard water.

Tanks Mates:  This eel will eat small tetras etc. Some of the larger tetras and barbs can make ideal tank mates.

Feeding: . They are carnivores and should be fed a combination of worms, frozen food and quality sinking pellets.
