Also known as the ‘Head & Tail Light’ Tetra, this little fish is adaptable and will thrive in most aquariums providing they are kept in a school of 6 or more. Although peaceful, it can be tempted to nip the fins of slow moving long finned fish. They like a well planted tank with open swimming areas and a darker substrate. Other than this, they are very undemanding and can cope with a band of differing water chemistry.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility - One of the best tetras for the ‘general’ community setup. It is lively, quite colourful and peaceful. It’s a good tankmate for most livebearers, danios, rasboras, other tetras and peaceful bottom dwellers such as Corydoras or smaller Loricariids. It can also be kept with the majority of commonly available gouramis and dwarf cichlids.
Ideal Number to Keep - Always buy a group of at least 6 of these, preferably 10 or more. It is a shoaling species by nature, and will fare much better when in the company of its own kind. It actually looks far more effective when maintained like this anyway.
Feeding - Easy to feed. It will readily accept just about anything offered. For the best condition and colours offer regular meals of small live and frozen foods such as bloodworm, Daphnia and brine shrimp, along with dried flakes and granules.
Please note – Some images used are library photos and will show the colour potential at a fully mature size, as our fish are juveniles they may vary.
