The Firemouth is a beautiful and peaceful fish. It does not dig excessively, preferring to take up residence in a clay pot or similar. They can suffer from stress if surrounded by boisterous tank mates so are often best housed with smaller, unrelated species.

pH Range: 6.5-7.5
Special Requirements: The firemouth can withstand a broad range of water parameters, providing the quality is good and low in Nitrate. Firemouth can become very stressed when first introducing them to a tank so the calmer the environment the better.
Tanks Mates: The Firemouth are usually the underdog in a Cichlid community and so, often do not thrive. It is often best to house them with smaller shoal fish such as Tetras and they will also live happily with a wide variety of catfish species.
Feeding: . It is predominantly a carnivore so feed should be of good quality and high in protein. They enjoy frozen and live food along with quality cichlid pellets.
