These are a really unique species, they are a very intelligent fish species. They are often one of the first fish to come out for food. They display some attractive colours, bright and bold they are a lovely addition to any larger aquarium.
Like all cichlids, they can be territorial during breeding.
Adult Length: 15-18cm
Temperature Range: 24 to 27 C
pH Range: 5.5-7.0
Special Requirements: A sandy smoth substrate is preferable, along with caves and hiding spaces.
Tanks Mates: They should be kept as part of a cichlid or large community setup. They will see smaller tank mates as food.
Feeding: They predominately like to feed on smaller fish and aquatic invertebrates, so a meat based diet including Dried/Frozen Shrimp & blood worm etc is prefered.
