White Cheek Moray Eel
Echidna rhodochilus
Echidna rhodochilus, commonly known as the White Cheek Moray, is a unique eel species found in brackish and freshwater environments in Southeast Asia. It features a long, slender body with brown to greyish colouration and distinct white edges along its fins and mouth. Growing up to 24 inches, this eel prefers hiding in crevices or under rocks during the day, becoming more active at night. While primarily carnivorous, feeding on small fish and invertebrates, it can adapt to captivity if provided a proper diet and a spacious, well-filtered tank.
Community with caution.
Adult Length: 30-50cm
Temperature Range: 24°-28°
pH Range: 7.0-8.2
Special Requirements: Large tanks are a must. A minimum of 400 litres. Also a tight fitting lid as, if they can escape, they will!!!
Tanks Mates: Dispite what many people believe, the Moray is not an aggressive fish, providing tank mates are large enough to not be considered a meal. Infact, it is more important to ensure that tank mates won't nip at the eel rather than the other way round.
Feeding: Moray are carnivorous and should be fed a wide variety of feed. To encourage them to feed on frozen or pellet feeds, tong feeding is the best way. It is also great fun!
