Cichlid Community
The Pearl Calvus Altolamprologus calvus (previously Lamprologus calvus) is unusual with its very laterally compressed body. This shape allows it to squeeze into the tight crevices and deep recesses within its rocky domain. There it hides and searches for prey.
Species – Altolamprologus / Calvus Black Pearl
Current Size – 3cm - 4cm
Adult Length – 15cm
Temperature Range – 24 - 27°C
pH Range – 7.5 – 9.0
Special Requirements - All African Cichlids are territorial to other males. The more rocks and hiding places they have the better.
Tanks Mates and Compatibility – Although territorial, it’s generally peaceful towards fish it can’t fit into its mouth, and is a good addition to a Tanganyikan community. However it tends to be quite shy, so aggressive or very vigorous tankmates such as Mbuna should be avoided. Good choices include Julidochromis, Neolamprologus, Cyprichromis and Tanganyikan Synodontis catfish. It can be maintained either as a pair or as a colony in a suitably sized tank.

Feeding – Their diet should contain meaty items such as blood worms, brine and mysis shrimp, carnivore flake and pellet foods.
