Hypostomus Luteus Phase 1

A phase 1 is the young juvenile stage of the rare Golden Sailfin Pleco from the border of Brazil with Argentina. They can be found in the fast flowing waters of the River Uruguay where they mainly eat algae. They do well on wood and veg. Things like sweet potato, courgette and cucumber is a great alternative.

Special Requirements:  Because of their immense adult size, a fully grown Hypostomus luteus eventually requires a massive aquarium ideally between 500 - 700L with heavy-duty filtration to manage their bioload. 

Tanks Mates:  The best tank mates for a Golden Sailfin Pleco are medium to large, non-aggressive fish that occupy the upper layers of the aquarium. Because Hypostomus luteus is peaceful but grows incredibly large and powerful, its tank mates must be big enough not to be eaten, yet docile enough not to nip at the pleco's prized fins.

Feeding:  They are an omnivore and should be fed some high protein pellets and frozen food as well as algae wafers, spirulina based flake and also vegetable matter like cucumber and lettuce.
