African Whale Fish
Brienomyrus brachyistius
Brienomyrus brachyistius, also known as the Whale fish, is a fascinating freshwater species native to African rivers. Similar species are recognised for their elongated, trunk-like snout, these have a stumped snout. This fish uses weak electrical impulses for navigation and communication in murky waters. Highly intelligent, the elephantnose fish prefers quiet, dimly lit environments and requires a well-maintained aquarium with ample hiding spots.

Adult Length – 15-20cm
Temperature Range – 24– 28°C
pH Range – 6.2 – 7.2
Special Requirements - They require a deep and fine substrate as they like to burrow. Subdued lighting and well planted. Nitrate levels need to be kept low.
Tanks Mates and Compatibility – They are a very gently Knifefish and will be peaceful towards other tank mates.
Feeding – Feed on invertebrates in the wild but will readily take frozen foods, small pellets or flake that is on the bottom.

The fish are selected at random however you are welcome to make a note on the order and the fish manager will do his best for you, requests are dependent on stock at the time of your order.
