Bionood ceramic cylinders are supplied with both Aqua One's Aquarium Series and their excellent Aquis and Advance Canister Filters because they offer such excellent biological filtration capacity. Change a few regularly to maintain an efficient and stable bacterial population.

Aqua One's excellent Bionood biological filter media is made by superheating an aquarium safe ceramic material until it becomes very porous. The pores vastly increase the surface area available to beneficial filtration bacteria and so a handful of Bionood can accommodate enough bacteria to coat a tennis court. In this way Bionood adds a large degree of stability to any aquarium, fish waste is processed quickly and water becomes crystal clear and odour free.

 

Although Bionood lasts for months it does, slowly, become clogged with dirt and bacterial debris so its efficiency and the health of your set up slowly declines. To prevent this we suggest that you exchange a few Bionood every time you clean the filter thereby keeping the culture fresh and effective. Its easy to tell old Bionood from new ones as the older ones become more and more discoloured with use. As with so many things in aquarium maintenance doing a little bit often is far better than leaving the aquarium until something is clearly astray and attempting to clean everything in one go.
