Giant Pikehead - Luciocephalus pulcher

The fish that you receive will be approximately 7cm.

The Pikehead is actually an anabantid, the same family as gouramis, and natural lives in blackwater swamp habitats. It requires soft acidic water that is stained with tannins and low level lighting. Dark substrate and plenty of plants will help this unusual fish settle in the aquarium. 

They are a piscivor that should not be housed with small tankmates as it will see them as food. It is a very slow moving fish that does not like to be disturbed too much so tank mates should be chosen wisely.

pH Range: 5 to 6.5

Special Requirements: Soft acidic and tannin stained water that is well planted and has a dark substrate or peat. 

Tanks Mates: The pikehead will eat anything alive that will fit in its mouth so tank mates should not be small. Ideally it should be kept in a species only aquarium but if tank mates are to be kept then they need to be slow moving and not too boisterous.

Feeding: .A bit of a finicky feeder. It is not keen on dry food althought they can be weaned onto it. They love live shrimps etc. although they will eat frozen brineshrimp, bloodworm etc.
