Scratched Inpa Tetra

Inpaichthys parauapiranga

The Scratched Inpa Tetra (Inpaichthys parauapiranga) is a peaceful and active shoaling fish native to a specific tributary of the Rio Canama in Brazil. This species is known for its unique appearance, featuring six red-dotted longitudinal stripes along its flanks, giving it a scratched or etched look. They're relatively small, reaching an approximate length of 4 cm.

Special Requirements - It is best to provide your Tetras with a mixed environment with some open swimming space and some plant cover.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility - Due to their small size and peaceful nature, they make excellent companions for other small, non-aggressive species. Suitable tank mates include Corydoras catfish, Pencilfish, smaller Rasboras, and other peaceful tetras. Avoid keeping them with larger, aggressive, or boisterous fish that could outcompete them for food or bully them..

Ideal Number to Keep - Mid-level feeders, they are best kept in schools of six or more, for the shoaling effect when they move around the tank. They shoal naturally in the wild and are thus more brightly coloured and more active when kept as a shoal as opposed to singly.

Feeding - Neon tetras are omnivores and will accept most foods, if sufficiently small, but should also have some small foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, which can be stuck to the side of the aquarium, and micro pellet food to supplement their diets. A tropical sinking pellet is ideal, as most brands of these include natural colour enhancers that bring out the colour in neon tetras. Some frozen foods, including frozen blood worms, add variety to their diets.

Please note – Some images used are library photos and will show the colour potential at a fully mature size, as our fish are juveniles they may vary.
