Sumatra Banded Loach

Nemacheilus fasciatus

Nemacheilus fasciatus, also known as the Banded loach, is a small freshwater fish species belonging to the family Nemacheilidae. Native to fast-flowing streams and rivers in Southeast Asia, particularly in India and Thailand, this fish thrives in rocky substrates with clean, oxygen-rich water. Nemacheilus fasciatus is characterized by its elongated body, distinct dark vertical bands, and barbels around the mouth, which help it forage for food in crevices. It primarily feeds on small invertebrates and algae. Due to its peaceful nature and small size, it is popular in aquariums, where it helps control algae growth.
