The cockatoo is another colourful and peaceful dwarf cichlid from South America. It has many colour variations, all of which are stunning. As with all Dwarf Cichlids, they prefer a slightly acidic and soft water and the Cockatoo cichlid can struggle is it is introduced to a new aquarium. It prefers a stable and mature environment. The males are slightly larger and more colourful than the females.
They thrive in a well planted tank with plenty of hiding places.

Special Requirements - They prefer a soft, slightly acidic environment.
Tanks Mates and Compatibility - These little cichlids are timid fish and tank mates should be chosen to compliment this. As with most cichlids, they can become territorial during breeding. They can be kept with other dwarf cichlids.

Feeding - The Cockatoo Cichlid are primarily carnivores and feed mostly on invertebrates in the wild. They are happy with most quality dry food but should be fed live or frozen food regularly.
