The African Clawed frog is larger than the Congo Frog  It enjoys a well planted tank with peaceful tank mates. The Clawed Frog is easy to keep providing that you can guarantee that it gets food.  They like to be able to sit on weed or solid structures with their noses out of the water.

The clawed frog can be kept with fish. Whilst they often look like they are trying to catch them, they are slow and lumbering so the fish do not seem to even see it as a threat.

Species – African Clawed Frog – Xenopus laevis

Current Size – 3cm

Adult Length – 15cm

Temperature Range – 16 - 22°C

pH Range – 7.07.8

Special Requirements - They need plenty of hiding spaces and like to crawl amongst plants.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility – Clawed frogs are pretty robust. They may try to eat really slow moving fish but are rarely successful.

Feeding –  Feeding Frogs can be the issue in a community environment. They enjoy frozen and dried larvae, bloodworm etc. and can be encouraged to eat sinking pellets, providing they are of a high protein content.

Please do not put these frogs with other species. They will try to eat anything which can end up with really bad injuries to both frogs and fish.

These frogs and there albino version are very cute can be fed by hand and are characters. They can live a long time 7 years plus. THEY ARE NOT SUITABLE to live with anything else other than fellow frogs of their own size. They grow big and need a big tank, have big mouths and will happily eat every expensive fish in your tank !
