The Black Knife fish should not be mistaken for Indian and African knife fish. It is a really interesting fish to watch that prefers subdued lighting as it is quite shy. These fish are truely majestic to watch. They love to spend their time amongst rocks and pots so certainly require plenty of hiding places.

Species – Black Ghost Knife Fish – Apteronotus albifrons

Current Size – 10cm

Adult Length – 50cm

Temperature Range – 23– 28°C

pH Range – 6.5 – 7.5

Special Requirements - Need a smooth substrate as they will spend most of their time on the bottom. Susceptible to high Nitrate.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility –  They are semi-aggressive so tank mates should be robust enough to handle a bit of a tussle on occasion. They will also eat anything that fits in their mouths.

Feeding –  Carnivores, they will eat virtually anything that they can get in their mouths. They love snails and shrimps but will take any quality pellet.
