Community
The clown loach is another favourite of tropical fishkeepers the world over. They are more peaceful than many of the loaches, meaning that they can be kept in a community situation. They can grow large and so this should be taken into account when deciding to own one. They can also live for a long time if cared for properly.
They prefer an aquarium with soft water, bog wood and plenty of hiding places.
Species – Clown Loach - Chromobotia Macracanthus
Current Size – 5cm - 6cm
Adult Length – 30cm
Temperature Range – 24 - 29°C
pH Range – 6.0 – 7.5
Special Requirements - Clown Loach are susceptible to Whitespot and they are also very sensitive to many whitespot treatments. This means that we do not recommend them for the novice fish keeper.
Tanks Mates and Compatibility – They are a good community fish as they are peaceful, but they will grow so need space. Not especially aggressive but don’t keep it with much smaller fishes as they may be intimidated by its size and sometimes very active behaviour.
Ideal Number to Keep – They like the company of other clown loach so do well when kept together.
Feeding – Appears to be chiefly carnivorous they will also eat vegetative matter if available, often including soft-leaved aquatic plants. The natural diet comprises aquatic molluscs, insects, worms, and other invertebrates.
