Cichlid Community – Aggressive cichlid

The White Spotted Cichlid from Lake Tanganyika. The Tropheus duboisi goes through an outstanding colour transformation as it grows. Watching this fish change from its juvenile to adult colouring is really amazing, with the adult looking like a totally different fish.

Tropheus cichlids are relatively hardy as long as diligent attention is paid to maintaining their environment and diet.

Species – Tropheus Duboisi

Current Size – 9cm - 11cm

Adult Length – 12cm

Temperature Range – 23 - 28°C

pH Range – 7.5 – 8.5

Special Requirements - All African Cichlids are territorial to other males. The more rocks and hiding places they have the better. The Tropheus species are very susceptible to African Bloat, also called Malawi Bloat. There seems to be no explainable rationale as to its cause.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility – The White Spotted Cichlid is said to be less aggressive than their cousins, but this can vary depending on the personalities of individual fish. They may be kept in a larger aquarium with other herbivorous rock dwelling African cichlids along with some Synodontis catfish species.

Feeding – This cichlid is an omnivore. Their diet should consist of vegetable matter. An all purpose, high quality cichlid formula can be used as a basic diet. Including vegetable supplements to their diet will help with overall health.
