Tanganyikan community
The Masked Julie, from Lake Tanganyika, is a pretty omnivorous cichlid that will claim its territory around a rock crevice or cave. They are happy as part of a Tangyikan community tank providing they have the space to have a small teritory that they can call home. Strategic rock placement to break lines of sight will help to alleviate any serious territorial behaviour.
Species – Masked Julie - Julidochromis transcriptus
Current Size – 4-5cm
Adult Length – 7cm
Temperature Range – 23 - 27°C
pH Range – 7.5 – 8.5
Special Requirements - All African Cichlids are territorial. The more rocks and hiding places they have the better. This is a small cichlid ans should not be kepts with large aggressive varieties.
Tanks Mates and Compatibility – Can be housed successfully with similarly-sized Tanganyikan cichlids and can even be kept with similarly sized peaceful species such as Aulonocara or Neolamprologus.
Feeding – M. johanni will accept most foods offered but vegetable matter in the form of spirulina flakes, blanched spinach etc. should form a large proportion of the diet. This can be supplemented with live and frozen varieties.
