Species – SIlver Hatchet - Gasteropelecus sternicla

The Silver hatchet is an unusual serface hugging fish that requires planted areas to hide out in. Water needs to be mature and soft and they like peaty water. They are a peaceful timid shoaling fish. The larger number that they are kept in, the safer they will feel and the more confident they become. 

Current Size – 3cm

Adult Length – 5cm

Temperature Range – 23 - 28°C

pH Range – 5.5 – 7.5

Special Requirements - They are known to jump, so a tank with a secure lid is essential

Tanks Mates and Compatibility – Relatively shy and peaceful and does not appreciate the presence of boisterous or fast-moving species. Good tankmates include many tetras, smaller loricariids, Corydoras spp. and peaceful cichlids such as Cleithracara or Mikrogeophagus spp. It should be maintained in a group.

Feeding – Not fussy eaters. Flake, micro pellets and small frozen foods.
