NOT A SPECIES YOU SEE OFTEN.

These fish like to spend all their time at the bottom of the aquarium. They like dark tanks and plenty of cover from leaf litter. They stay hidden until prey swims by and then they attack. Dont add any smaller species into the tank as they will soon become food.

Species – Frogmouth Catfish - Chaca chaca

Current Size – 15cm

Adult Length – 20cm

Temperature Range – 22 - 25°C

pH Range – 6.0 - 7.5

Special Requirements: A dimly-lit tank suits this sedentary species. The use of a soft, sandy substrate is also recommended as the fish often bury themselves. The addition of some beech twigs and dried oak or beech leaves will help to simulate the natural habitat of the fish.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility – A highly predatory species, is best kept alone. It will consume almost any fish that strays close enough to its capacious mouth and is capable of swallowing prey items almost as big as itself. In large, deep aquaria it may be possible to keep it with fast-swimming species that live high in the water column, but even this carries risks. It can however be kept with others of its own kind with no problems.

Feeding – It is sometimes possible to feed dried or meaty frozen foods. However, many specimens refuse anything but live food.
