Melanotaenia pygmaea

 

 
Melanotaenia pygmaea, known as the pygmy rainbowfish, is a small freshwater fish endemic to Australia. It inhabits slow-moving streams and wetlands in the Northern Territory, thriving in warm, tannin-stained waters with dense vegetation. This species has an elongated body with iridescent scales that shimmer under light, displaying hues of blue and silver. Melanotaenia pygmaea is an omnivore, feeding on small invertebrates and plant matter.

Temperature Range 23-28°C

pH Range: 6.8-7.2

Special Requirements:  Fairly easy to keep.

Tanks Mates:  They are peaceful and ideal for community situations.

Feeding: . They are an omnivore and should be fed a varied diet of flakes, micro pellets and live/frozen food.
