Lizard Tetra

Iguanodectes spilurus

Iguanodectes spilurus, commonly known as the green line lizard tetra, is a peaceful freshwater fish native to the Amazon River basin in South America. It features a slender, silvery body with a distinct horizontal green or iridescent stripe. These schooling fish prefer well-oxygenated, slow-moving waters and thrive in groups. In aquariums, they require stable water conditions, subdued lighting, and plenty of swimming space.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility - Generally peaceful and good for community aquariums. Should be kept in groups of 8-10.

Ideal Number to Keep - Mid-level feeders, they are best kept in schools of six or more, for the shoaling effect when they move around the tank. They shoal naturally in the wild and are thus more brightly coloured and more active when kept as a shoal as opposed to singly.

Feeding - Omnivores and will accept most foods, if sufficiently small, but should also have some small foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, which can be stuck to the side of the aquarium, and micro pellet food to supplement their diets. A tropical sinking pellet is ideal, as most brands of these include natural colour enhancers that bring out the colour in neon tetras. Some frozen foods, including frozen blood worms, add variety to their diets.

Please note – Some images used are library photos and will show the colour potential at a fully mature size, as our fish are juveniles they may vary.
